SHEFFIELD150 – A Common Purpose Legacy Programme Initiative

Opportunity: 5 S-PA places on the Common Purpose Legacy programme, Sheffield150

Available to: young people (aged 18-25) within S-PA member organisations

Deadline: applications for the S-PA places must be received by 12pm on Monday 28 September

A new initiative run by Common Purpose, Sheffield150, is presenting young people aged 18-25 in Sheffield with a unique and free opportunity to shape their city’s future. Part of Common Purpose’s global Legacy campaign, it seeks to tackle real social challenges and allow our young people to develop their leadership skills (and networks).

In 2043, it will be 150 years since Sheffield was formally granted city status. Sheffield150 will challenge a diverse group of 100 young people to think through what their generation’s legacy will be by the time Sheffield reaches 150.

The young people, from a range of backgrounds, will come together with various established local leaders to work on the challenge “How do we work together to create a fair, inclusive and healthy Sheffield?”.

Sheffield150 is open to anyone aged 18-25 who is living, working or studying in Sheffield.  The programme is being run online on 15th, 16th, 19th and 20th of October, with a welcome session on 7th October.

Our Involvement

The S-PA is delighted to be sponsoring this exciting project.  We are an association of member entities, many of them local to Sheffield, all of them having a passion for Sheffield and its future.  We seek to promote and provide the very best for our City, and the city region.

Common Purpose’s Legacy campaign, which looks to invest in the leaders of the future, is closely aligned with our goals and objectives, as well as our own Next Generation initiative.  We are very much looking forward to playing a part in this important programme, and hearing from those young people that will be shaping the future of Sheffield.

To Apply

The SPA have secured 5 places on this course for the next generation of leaders within our member organisations.  Do you have someone in your team/a future recruit that would benefit from joining this programme?  If so, please do encourage them to apply to join the course.

The young leaders need to answer the following question and send their applications by email to (marked clearly “Common Purpose”) by 12pm on Monday 28 September.  They are of course also welcome to apply directly via Common Purpose.

The S-PA application question is: What is your vision for the built environment in Sheffield in 2043?

The response can take any form – we are encouraging people to be creative!
